🚀 Getting Started

Install the App

Download and install auctornotes-release.apk on your Android device. You will need to enable Install from unknown sources in your Android settings first.

Permissions

When you first use dictation, the app will ask for Microphone permissions. This is required for the speech-to-text engine to function.

Create a Project

AuctorNotes organises information by project. Tap the "+" button on the home screen to create your first workspace.

Sync

💻 Syncing with your PC

AuctorNotes allows you to transfer your notes directly to your desktop for long-term storage or editing.

1. Pairing your Device

Manual Start: To save battery, pairing is not automatic. Navigate to the My Projects screen and tap Start Pairing.
Discovery: The app will attempt to find your PC automatically using UDP and mDNS on your local network.
Manual Connection: If your PC isn't found automatically, you can manually enter your PC's IP address and port (48172). Your phone's local IP address is displayed on the Pairing screen to help you troubleshoot.

2. Transferring Notes

Once connected:

Notes are synced to the active project on your PC.
Auto-Cleanup: After a note is successfully received and confirmed by your PC, it is removed from your phone. This ensures your mobile device stays clutter-free and your data is securely moved to your primary workstation.

AuctorNotes uses Material 3, Google's latest design system.

Dynamic Theme: The app features a high-energy orange and azure palette.
Adaptive Icon: Look for the "Brain & Quill" icon on your home screen.

❓ Troubleshooting

Connection Failed?

Ensure both your phone and PC are on the same Wi-Fi network. Check that your PC firewall allows traffic on port 48172.

Dictation Issues?

Ensure you have a stable internet connection (required for Google Speech Services) and that the microphone is not being used by another app.

Where are my notes?

Remember that once a note is transferred to your PC, it is deleted from the phone to complete the hand-off process. Check the active project in Auctor on your desktop.
